INTERVIEWS WITH CHIX WHO ROCK
FEATURING LEMON JAMES!
RCL : When did you decide to play the electric guitar?
Lemon James: Inspiration came from some passionate guitar work by David Gilmour, from
Pink Floyd..."Another Brick in the Wall II", to be exact. the guitar
solo that he plays at the end of the song moved me in such a fashion,
that I really wanted to be able to do that, to make such meaningful deep
heavy sounds and statements.
RCL : Did anyone ever say that Youre a girl and cant do that? If
so, how did you respond to that comment?
Lemon James: Don't really recall getting that kinda response when I first started,
but when I got into Hendrix there was plenty of curious as well as
doubtful hecklers , but I received plenty of various responses from
folks when I claimed and achieved sounds and shows akin to Jimi Hendrix.
A lot of people really enjoy the band, and they get charged by a Lemon
James performance, that's the way it should be, take those in attendance
for a musical ride.. one for both their ears and their eyes :)
RCL : Who were your influences growing up?
Lemon James: Musical influences would be what i got to hear a lot of ,, so that would
be my parents musical choices of Motown, Booker T Brubeck,.. then later
, Pink Floyd, classic rock, Gentle Giant, George Telleman, Hendrix, and
then a mix of anything else that passed by my eardrums.
RCL : Were you nervous when you were playing at your first show?
Lemon James: Oh yeah.. open mic in Ypsi at Cross Street Station, the 3 of us
nervously blasted thru a set of Hendrix covers to a full house of mostly
college students.
RCL : What made you decide to become a guitarist?
Lemon James: See no 1
RCL : Have you ever been biased by the club managers and the music
industry because of your gender?
Lemon James: Of course.. sometimes in my favor and sometimes not .. that is just the
way it is. no prob, just be happy here and now :)
RCL : What message do you want to send to your fans?
Lemon James: My most sincere thanks for their love and participation in my life. They
are the part of me that gets to sit back and go for the ride that we
(the band) are fortunate to take them on :). It has been a privilege to
meet so many really great wonderful people .
RCL : Do you still get nervous when you perform?
Lemon James: Usually not.
RCL : What kind of advice would you give to upcoming female artists?
Lemon James: Be happy here and now.. there is nothing to prove, just be yourself, but
also be free from expectations, thus you will know peace and the power
of music. Just keep smiling.
RCL : Was there a time when everything got to be too much?
Lemon James: Yeah, there was, when I was too preoccupied with me my self and I.
Misery found me when I began to believe the brainwashings that I had to
"say" something, or "prove" something, had to be famous. This
unnecessary egocentric brainwashings is the enemy of happiness and of
living, if one is always concerned with the future , then one will deny
themselves the happiness that is right here and now.
RCL : What was your driving force that made you keep going?
Lemon James: Hmm. Not sure ..
RCL : What do you want your legacy to be in the music industry ?
Lemon James: Desirelessness is freedom.. but.. there are some tunes that could use to
find themselves on tape..( could use to do a little recording)
RCL : What is your dream guitar ? Is it a particular brand (and why)?
Or would it be custom made? If so, what colors and features would you
want on the guitar?
Lemon James: I have the dream guitar, one that I built that is a most strikingly
beautiful golden browns with black streaks wood.
still , however I build a few throughout the year and experiment with
electronics and such :)
it is a Beliger Guitar, the model is "Foxey"
RCL : Do you have any information about new concerts, CDs, or
activities you like to share with your fans (new and old)?
Lemon James: Have some really cool shows for this summer :)

About Lemon James:
Rare indeed to find a girl playing electric guitar with such
authority!.. Lemon James performances are often a mixture of Lemon James
original songs, along with her renditions of a variety of tunes from her
main idol, the guitar master, Jimi Hendrix.
Fronting the power trio, Lemon's eye catching attire, vibrant energy and
showmanship commands the audiences attention. If the mood strikes, you
may catch her playing a portion of a guitar solo picking with her teeth
or playing behind her head!
When asked about such stage tricks, she responded " well... it's just
part of having fun! It's fun to do, and the folks really enjoy it."
Lemon holds a design patent on her main guitar that she built. The
unusual guitar looks like a wood carving made by nature .. it appears as
though it may have been plucked out of the woods, with the contrasting
brown wood tones and exotic wild shape.
Performing throughout the Detroit area you may be a part of a live
release that is expected to be available this summer.
Livin In The Sun is a full production professionally recorded and
mastered work featuring primarily Lemon's original music and one Jimi
Hendrix cover(Foxey Lady). Recorded on 2 inch analog at Studio A in
Dearborn, and mastered at Georgetown Masters by Denny Purcell, the cd
has a satisfying and complete sound to it.
Power Tracks Is a collection of instrumental originals, including
instrumental tracks from Livin In The Sun, as well as new tunes.
Lemon enjoys staying in shape by doing some weight training at the local
gym and trail running when possible. She was accepted to a local fitness
based reality show called Xtreme Warrior. Presently Xtreme Warrior is
shopping their finished product to television networks worldwide. See
her on portions of the series along with other women from Michigan and
California competing for a cash prize. For more information log onto
