INTERVIEWS WITH CHIX WHO ROCK
FEATURING JACQUI TAYLOR!
RCL : When did you decide to play the electric
guitar?
Jacqui: I actually started off with an acoustic guitar first. I
think I was probably about nine or ten years old. I used to go and hide
away in the practice rooms at school at break times playing and creating
songs. It wasn’t until I heard some Stevie Ray could take my
explorations to a new level, I never looked back! It was an outlet from
the classical training that I had in the piano and I think the
creativity and Vaughan that I discovered the electric guitar – WOW, I
had to get one! This meant I expression I could produce on the electric
guitar took it one step higher for me.
RCL : Did anyone ever say that “You’re a girl and can’t do
that?” If so, how did you respond to that comment?
Jacqui: No, not in so many words. However, I am aware that the
general consensus is that us girls, for some reason, aren’t always taken
that seriously. I hope that when people see me play I soon change their
minds.
I'm grateful to Jacqui for taking the opportunity to do the interview with me.
